{An all too often occurrence around here :) }
And I was shocked at what I saw.
The Luvs brand diapers- which we've used for almost a year now- suddenly dropped the number of diapers in the size 4 box {I believe the other sizes were affected as well}
There were some slight differences between these new boxes- but not really.
Let me show you.
The diaper/box on the left is the last box of diapers we bought- probably 2 weeks ago.
The diaper on the right was what was available this weekend.
This is the "older" style diaper This is the "newer" style diaper
It appears to me that they changed it from
"Ultra Absorbent Core" to "Super Absorbent Core".
The diapers haven't changed at.all. They aren't any thicker, they appear to be made of all the same materials, everything is the same.
Not that I thought they needed to anyway- we've never had any issues with Luvs brand diapers.
They did however go from
108 diapers down to 82 diapers-
for the same price!!
Let me break this down for you.
2 weeks ago- we got 108/$15.97= 15 cents/diaper
Saturday we got 82/$15.97=19 cents/diaper

Are you kidding me??
The diaper has not changed- no matter what the packaging says. I had absolutely no warning for this change- did they think they were going to trick me? A difference of 26 diapers is 5 days of diapers for us.
Has anybody else noticed a change with their diapers/ other products lately? This is seriously aggravating. We've tried nearly all the brands of diapers and have settled on Luvs because while I prefer Huggies overall- Luvs are considerably cheaper. We are sad to see them go, but with this much of a price difference- we can't afford not to.
My sister uses the Parent's Choice diapers from Walmarrt- and we are going to try them next. Any other diaper suggestions?
19 cents a diaper?? Really?
Happy Monday!
I'm gonna go make a big salad and enjoy the sun. And try to not let this ruin my day :)

i could go on about this forever! I watch my nephew during the day and he wears luvs. They changed ours here awhile ago and now the gel tings the absorb will leak or break open the diaper quick. Randomly Ill find these gel beads on the ground. Its pretty gross. I did complain to Luvs personally. They wanted me to send them a reciept and box number and store but I didnt have that since my sister usually buys 3 or 4 boxes at a time. They sent me 2 ten dollar off coupons but we still have the problem. Also I dont let his diaper get really full, he is old enough to just take it off so we never let is get heavy at risk he will pee on the carpet. my mom did talk to the people at walmart and the manage said that the pricing changed per the demographic of the area. If there are more poor people the price will vary that's why walmart wont price match their own online pricing in the store. When I was checking out different formula when aspen was really little I could get the same can for 10 at one Walmart and 5 miles down the road it was 13.88. I use Walgreens diapers with Aspen. I go through about 40 a week and a lot of times they are on sale 5.99 for 36 diapers but thats size 3. I generally hear that its different for girls and boys with diapers but I think walgreens is comparable to huggies. I prefer pampers but I just cant afford them. But anyway complain to them! Atleast they might send you some coupons about the price difference and the amount per box. I hope you dont have the problems that I do!
ReplyDeleteOh wow, so Walmart basically admitted to you that they price items based on (perceived) demographics of an area, and poverty being a factor. That's discriminatory. They could be sued for that. Anyway, a friend of mine who just had her first baby has been looking at using cloth diapers. I'm not sure how much they cost, or if there would be a good way to do that where you live, but certainly something to think about.
ReplyDeletewe get our diapers, size 3 at costco for 14-15 cents a diaper and they are huggies love huggies!

I know I'm a new mom and all, but I've been considering this whole diaper thing too. I haven't had to buy any yet (thanks to many diaper cakes and huge boxes as gifts from friends). But I am definitely considering cloth diapering. For a diaper washing service, it costs nearly the same as buying disposable diapers, whereas washing your own saves hundreds and potentially thousands of dollars a year. The initial investment may cost a lot, but only buying the eco-friendly disposable liners is far more affordable than entire "disposable" diapers. I was a cloth diaper baby and my mom enjoyed it, and cloth diapers have come a long way in 25+ years anyway. I have friends who use them now and swear by them. Plus, I'll admit that I'm a tree hugger and it just makes me cringe to see how many diapers go into the garbage can in a single day, much less in an entire week. I'm only concerned about the time factor. I don't have much time as it is, and I'll either need to buy a bunch of cloth diapers or wash them multiple times per week. I'll be blogging about it myself when I try it (in a couple of months, probably), so I'll let you know what I think after my own experience!
ReplyDeleteOn another note about cloth diapers, I hear they sometimes make potty-training easier or happen earlier because babies can better feel when they're wet and really don't like it. It may be worth thinking about if that's true!
i know this is an old post and that i'm SERIOUSLY blog-stalking you right now, but i heartily suggest using cloth diapers. you can cloth from birth to potty training for less than $300. plus, it's better for the environment. i could totally talk your ear off about it, so all you have to do is ask!
ReplyDeletealso--welcome to Champaign! we are really really excited that you're here!
